What Does It Take To Play Pro Golf?
Many weekend golfers ask the question What does it take to play pro golf every weekend while they are racking up the strokes and knocking down the beers. The first step to playing pro golf is to put away the beer there Arnie Palmer and take your game a little more seriously. I always love to hear the guys that happen to shoot an 85 for 18 holes sitting in the clubhouse saying that they see how easy it is to play pro golf now and how they could terrorize the tour if just given the chance. Lesson number one Mr. Nicklaus, an 85 isn’t even close for a pro round.
Pro golf requires years of dedication, full time dedication, to not only improving your game but to also keeping yourself in top physical condition. It used to be that pro golfers never considered themselves athletes so conditioning was not really part of the regiment. Ever since Tiger Woods came along with his peak physical conditioning which allowed him to be able to focus on the 18th hole of a round played in 100 degree heat most players hit the gym and now physical conditioning is critical to golf success. Just 10 or 15 years ago pro golfers were the picture of the anti-athlete, now how times have changed.
Practice, Practice, Practice
What does it take to play pro golf? Practice, practice, and more practice. The pros hit thousands of golf balls a day every day and are constantly working on their swing trying to give themselves that edge over everyone else. Every so often a pro will take some time off but everyone needs a break once in a while. But for the most part pros spend all of their time hitting golf balls and practicing. Before tournaments they are on the range practicing, after tournaments and 18 holes of competitive golf they are still on the range practicing, and on the days they have off they are still on the range practicing. It is a cycle that never ends until they retire and many pro golfers never retire.
So dedication is the key to pro golf and you have to have it in every aspect of your game including in your own conditioning. It takes time to get good enough to consider turning pro but remember that if you work hard enough then anything can be accomplished and there is no such thing as the impossible dream if you want to work for it hard enough.
